Speaker: Simon Wood
Topic: The historical Jesus – is there evidence?
Join us for an evening at XRDS Deeper.
Historian and theologian Simon Wood starts us off with a conversation about Jesus as a historical person. He is at the centre of our Christian faith, yet society often questions belief in certain aspects of His existence. Together, we’ll unpack and discuss the historical Jesus.
Whilst some confidently claim there is more evidence for the existence of Jesus of Nazareth than for the existence of Julius Caesar, others increasingly vocally claim that Jesus is a myth and following Jesus is about as reasonable as following Thor or Osiris!
The aim of this talk and discussion is to navigate the way through these widely differing positions by looking at the reasonableness of the evidence for Jesus’ life and examining the question of the reliability of the Gospels. The hope is that through this we can respond to this debate in a way that is both historically accurate and personally wise.
Conversations worth having about faith, science and culture. At every event an expert will introduce the topic of the evening. This will be followed with an open and honest conversation in a safe environment where we can learn from one another. Dig deeper, get inspired and grow in faith.Sign up
