Winter Clothing Collection

Sunday, 28 November 2021 - Sunday, 12 December 2021

We will be collecting clothing for undocumented refugees in the Bijlmer area. Many of these people are homeless and living in temporary shelters or hostels. Keeping warm is a real challenge for them during winter.

Please bring any coats, jackets, jerseys, beanies/warm hats, gloves and scarves that you don’t wear anymore, to church on the following Sundays: November 28, December 5 and December 12.

More information about the receiver of this action:

De Nieuwe Stad in Amsterdam Bijlmer East is a meeting place for many migrant churches and community leaders. At De Nieuwe Stad they provide food and clothes to the homeless and to undocumented migrants on a daily basis. Many people have lost their jobs due to corona and are suffering as a result. Especially the undocumented people that are not allowed to fall back on government aid or foodbank support. Over a thousand people depend on these churches for their food, clothes, medicine and much more. As pastors and community leaders we cooperate with organizations like the Red Cross, HumanAid NOW and the GGD to be able to provide food support, medical aid and legal assistance.

As winter is approaching, many of the homeless and undocumented people are in dire need for warm clothes: jackets, sweaters, good shoes, dry socks, gloves, scarves, beanies etc. Some of the people that come to De Nieuwe Stad daily, are sleeping on the streets and in parks. Others have temporary homes where they are unable to leave personal items or wash clothes. Several people stay in unsafe places like squatter buildings. De Nieuwe Stad do their best to have clothes and blankets available whenever someone is in need.
