MISSION MONTH WEEK 1
Date: August 1, 2020
Time: Differs per event, see below.
Location: Various locations in Amsterdam and Zaandam, to be communicated by STC once you register for one of the activities.
Register by: There is no deadline for registration, but full is full, so don’t delay!
Pancake Pandemonium
Baking pancakes for the homeless/elderly (drop off 10:00-12:00):
Now, during Corona time, it is not possible to visit the centers for the elderly or homeless, but you can bake pancakes with your LIFEgroup (or by yourself, but that’s way less fun!) and deliver them to one of the various locations in Amsterdam. Choose an area in Amsterdam and Serve the City will send you the location to deliver to a week in advance. This is an activity that is a huge blessing to the elderly and homeless, so why not make an evening or morning of it to get together as a LIFEgroup and bake some yummy pancakes!

Amsterdam Action
Make Amsterdam Pretty (10:30-13:00):
Over the past few years, awareness of sustainability has brought the waste problem to the attention of the public across the globe. Amsterdam is encouraging people to help in the effort to solve the current plastic problem. Bring your LIFEgroup and your kids and make a difference to your community and the environment.

Cards that Care
Handing out cards of appreciation (10:30-13:00):
With small gifts and handwritten cards we will be visiting the places where people work and thank them for what they are doing for the city, especially now in Corona times. Think about tram & bus drivers, street cleaners and the many other people helping in the city of Amsterdam. We will take some time to talk to people and make it more personal. Spend some quality time with your LIFEgroup to write messages and let the kids make drawings on the cards provided by Serve the City.

Gardening Greatness
Gardening at MijnStadstuijn in Amsterdam Nieuw West (11:00-16:00):
MijnStadstuin is a 4 hectare DIY food supply garden in a new, permanent, urban agricultural area in Amsterdam West. MijnStadstuijn provides space, knowledge, support and resources with which people can plant their own organic vegetables. To make it possible, they need extra hands that are enthusiastic to learn or improve their knowledge in gardening. Gardening is more than sowing and harvesting vegetables.
On this project day, you will have the chance to spend a nice day outside with your LIFEgroup, in a wonderful, natural environment within cycling distance from Amsterdam.
All materials and knowledge will be supplied by MijnStadstuin.

Cooking for Care Workers
Prepare lunch for the caretakers of the elderly care homes (10:00-14:00)
Even though the Corona measures have been relaxed quite a bit, there is still extra pressure on all people who work in care homes for the elderly. How wonderful would it be to surprise them and brighten up their day with a delicious lunch!
Would you (individually or together with your LIFEgroup?) like to do something for these caretakers by cooking a lunch and delivering it to one of the elderly care homes in Amsterdam? If each LIFEgroup member cooks one dish ie. vegetables/rice/meat etc. you can cook for a number of people together. To read more and register, click HERE and indicate how many people you can prepare lunch for. Serve the City will contact you to give you more information about the location.

Care with Cake
Baking cakes for the residents and caretakers of elderly homes (10:30-14:00)
During Corona, most elderly people were locked in their apartments. It was a difficult time for them as well as their caretakers. So we are looking for enthusiastic bakers to brighten up their day with some homemade cakes! We will be making different kinds of cakes and sweets in the Serve the City office kitchen and deliver them to the retirement homes afterward – so don’t forget your bike!

Lunch with Love
10:30-14:00
Make a healthy lunch in the Serve the City office kitchen and deliver the lunchboxes personally, with a team of volunteers, to homeless people at different spots in Amsterdam. Not only is a lack of food a problem amongst the homeless, but loneliness is an invisible issue. Who will you meet on this day and with whom will you be eating lunch? You will be guided through the city by amazing project coordinators and please bring your bike!
Due to the nature of this outreach, there is a minimum age requirement of 12 years applicable to children joining this outreach.

Flourish with Flowers
Delivering Flowers to the Elderly (11:00-14:00)
Come and brighten up somebody’s day by surprising them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We need 10-20 volunteers to pick up flowers from Nieuwe Herengracht 18 and deliver them to an address in Amsterdam Oost, Zuid-Oost or Diemen. It would be great if you could bring your bike!
